How to Choose the Right Web Designer for You

November 6th, 2009 by digital

Choosing a great web designer in itself can be a difficult task, but finding one that is right for YOU and the project you need work on, makes it that much more of a daunting task. There are so many web designers on the internet and so many options available that it is hard to find out which are good, which are great, and most importantly, which ones fit your needs.
Let’s start by covering some basics. First, cheaper is not always worse. Some people figure that the more you pay for web design, the better it is going to be. This is simply not true. There are some that have only a year of experience under their belt that like to charge extravagant prices, because they figure people will think that very thing. On the other hand, there are seasoned veterans of web design that have a lot of experience and are extremely talented that don’t charge a lot simply because they know there is so much competition in the market, or because they only do it as a side gig, and don’t see the point in overvaluing something that doesn’t take them very long to do.
The other thing to look for in a good web designer is their portfolio. Probably the most important part of choosing a web designer is to look over their portfolio and ask yourself if their “style” fits with your own. If you don’t like the examples of their previous work, then they probably won’t be able to make you happy.
When you are viewing their portfolio, be sure to look at the websites they have designed live, and contact the current webmaster of that site. Ask how their experience was with that particular designer and how long it took, was the pricing reasonable, etc. Nothing can give you a better idea of how good or bad a web designer is than the people they have already designed for.
Finally, you have to find out if they can do what you need them to do. Different web designers have different skill sets. While one web designer may be able to code incredible flash intros and moving JavaScript menus, you may need someone who can simply do rounded table corners and animated gifs. Let them know what you expect them to do, what you would like to see on your site, and if you have any special requirements. Making sure that they can do the things you need them to do is a priority before you send any payment or make any agreements.
Overall, finding a good designer can be an easy task if you know what to look for. There are an incredible amount of web designers available on the internet, each with their own style and set of skills. Making sure that their prices work for you, their skills are what you need, and that their style fits your own is of the utmost importance when selecting your web designer. Unless you are a huge corporation, a company or individual should not charge you over $500 for a single project. Many web designers will charge less than that, anywhere from $50 to $200 a project is a reasonable amount for a basic web design job.
As far as banners, flash intros, and other smaller projects, rates should be even lower, although you should take into account that any special skills (such as Flash, animation, extensive CSS, etc.) will and should cost more.

Some Basic Reviews on Money

November 6th, 2009 by digital

Many people are always on the lookout for a great deal on a credit card and many have found that a low APR credit card is a great way that they can save some money. By purchasing a manual projection screen you can save a lot of money over other options that are on the market today.
There are a number of reasons why it is almost impossible to make money online quickly, despite the common myth spread around the internet. But there are tons of ways to make money online; home business opportunities, telecommute positions, becoming a webmaster, promoting affiliate programs, taking surveys for cash, playing poker and the list goes on.
What is almost second nature to you? The answer to this question will usually lead you directly to a special talent that you possess which the world out there is waiting for and which you can quickly turn into the best idea to make money fast online. One of the things that you will need to understand very well to make money fast is how to market whatever it is that you are selling online. IN FOREX trading the way to make money fast, is to understand the power of compound growth.
In stocks or options trading, your first priority is not to make money, but rather to preserve your capital, for whatever % of money you lose, you have to make a larger % to come back to that same level. Before you buy new or used, have a look at the financing options available to you and decide which option makes more money making sense to your current situation. As well as knowing which currencies to trade and being able to recognize entry and exit signals for trading, the successful Forex trader must be able to manage his resources and to incorporate money management into his trading plan.
One of the first and best known affiliate programs was offered by Amazon. I have joined many Affiliate Programs due to the fact it did not require me to set up a Website, create my website, or have to find content to add to my Website, I actually took the short cut, at least in my book it was a big shortcut for me. When you create your website content it is important to keep three things in mind: Know the information people want about your chosen topic, know the keywords people search for and know the affiliate programs that are available to you.
Apply online for credit card offers like the Capital One No Hassle Miles Visa Signature Card and you will see that most other cards do not offer the option of donating your earned miles to charity. If you are looking for an airline rewards credit card, you’ll find that many of the best offers are available online. And if you are comparing credit cards with almost the same interest rate, choose the one that offers you points or rewards for what you purchases or for what you purchase most.
Think carefully on how to invest your money because if you make wrong decisions it could cost you dearly. The best place to invest your money is in yourself. Are you tired of always hearing that the smartest way to invest money in the stock market is to buy an index fund when you know that other people consistently beat the S&P 500?
As the name might imply, unsecured loans are loans that do not use collateral as a guarantee that the loan will be repaid. Car loans for graduates are usually unsecured since they do not own a property that can be offered as collateral. Bad credit personal loans may be classified into secured and unsecured personal loans depending on the collateral offered to the lender.

Side Effects of Flolan Treatment

November 6th, 2009 by digital

Primary Pulmonary Hypertension is a serious condition, and the drugs that are used to treat it (such as Flolan and Tracleer) are effective, but do have some potentially serious side effects and symptoms to watch out for. Some of these side effects may be unpleasant to live with, however leaving Primary Pulmonary Hypertension untreated has much more severe consequences.
Minor Side Effects of Flolan
Minor side effects include the following symptoms. These side effects are fairly common in patients being treated with Flolan (note that some of these symptoms are caused by Flolan being administered intravenously rather than by the drug itself).
Some of these side effects are commonly experienced by individuals who are beginning treatment, and the symptoms may subside as the medication dosage is adjusted to optimal levels. If you experience any of these side effects, see your doctor for advice; especially if they become persistent or particularly irritating or painful.
* Abnormal sensations on the skin (such as a “crawling” feeling) or an altered ability to feel sensations
* Anxiety, agitation, or nervousness
* Pain, swelling or redness at the site of injection
* Back pain
* Stomach pain, stomach upset, or diarrhea
* Headache, dizziness, or nausea
* Pain in the jaw or muscles
* Sweating
* Vomiting
Serious Side Effects of Flolan
The following side effects are considered more serious, these include a possible allergic reaction to the drug as well as side effects caused by the drug itself. If you experience any of these side effects, it’s important to seek medical attention immediately. Do not substitute reading this article for medical advice, and please consult your doctor for a more complete list of side effects.
Symptoms of severe allergic reaction include a rash or hives on the skin, itching of the skin, shortness of breath, a feeling of tightness in the chest, and swelling of the tongue or facial features. Any of these symptoms indicate that a dangerous allergic reaction is occurring, and immediate medical attention should be sought.
Other serious side effects of Flolan include:
* Chest pain
* Irregular or fast heartbeat
* Headache, muscle pain or bone pain
* Swelling in the abdominal area
* Unusual or unexplained bruising, or a tendency to bruise easily
* Bleeding gums or nosebleeds
* A feeling of general weakness
In addition, you should also watch out for any signs of infection at the injection site. These may include symptoms such as pain, swelling, redness or bleeding. Any signs of infection, including sudden fever, should be reported to your doctor as soon as possible.
As you can see, some of these side effects can be considered both minor and serious, depending on the circumstances. For this reason, it is important to seek medical advice whenever any of these symptoms are experienced. Only your doctor will know for sure if these symptoms are a cause for alarm.
Not all of these side effects are serious in themselves (a bleeding nose is not in itself life-threatening) but some of these side effects may indicate that your Flolan treatment dosage needs to be adjusted, or that your body may be responding to your PPH treatment in an unexpected way.
If you have any unexplained symptoms that are not on these lists, consult your doctor as soon as possible. Any unexplained effects should be monitored to make sure they are not serious or life-threatening.
Drug Interactions
Flolan is known to interact with a wide variety of prescription medications as well as some over-the-counter medicines, and the list of such medications is much too long to include here. If you are taking any other medications (including prescription and over-the counter medications and supplements) in addition to Flolan it is vital to make sure your doctor is aware of these.
Even commonly-used medications such as Tylenol and many forms of Aspirin can reduce the effectiveness of Flolan, so it is also important to seek medical advice before taking any other medications while you are using Flolan for PPH treatment.

What Is Social Media - What Makes It Different?

November 6th, 2009 by digital

In case you hadn’t noticed, the internet has changed. In fact, you might say, there are two internets running side by side; the first is the old one and the second the new. Like a city with the new buildings going up next to the old. Think of London with St Paul’s Cathedral just down the road from the modernist Lloyd’s building.
When we talk about old and new on the internet we are clearly talking about relatively short timescales; since the public face of the internet is only just over fifteen years old. But to continue the analogy with architecture: the change in those fifteen years is like going from Roman churches to the cathedrals of the Gothic period which took centuries; or from St Paul’s to the Lloyd’s Building in less than a quarter of an average lifetime. I am sorry to stretch the analogy and press it upon you, but when change happens quickly we are inclined to adopt the changes almost as fast, and assuming there was some inevitability about it. There wasn’t. The internet began on a publishing model and the new developments are entirely organic. And what is the nature of this change? Social Media.
Blogging, MySpace and YouTube have been buzz words for what seems like ages; but while the concept of blogging began slowly in the mid 1990’s and developed through various technological forms over the years; MySpace was founded only four years ago in 2003 and was firmly built upon the concept that blogging had instigated. Youtube was started an even shorter time ago, in 2005.
While these, the giants of MySpace and YouTube, made their brief ascent many other similar such sites appeared, including such websites as: Friends Reunited, Wikipedia, Flickr, Facebook, Digg, Stumbleupon, and many others. What all these sites have in common is, firstly, that they act as platforms for User Generated Content and, secondly, they encourage and promote the building of networks of one kind or another. These are the fundamental tenets of “social media”: they can be described as socially created and socially directed.
This is entirely different to the “publishing model” which the world wise web appeared to start out upon; where websites were like online versions of printed brochures or magazines and were created by one or many people for the purpose of dissemination based upon the interests or agenda of the publisher. Social Media is under no such controlling power and is a truly “social” creation.
The analogy I used earlier, of Roman to Gothic architecture, was an apt one. All Roman buildings were based upon templates, or blueprints, which set out exactly how a building of a particular kind would look. Where ever you travel in Europe, Roman architecture is instantly identifiable and in some ways, almost seems to have been created from a “cookie cutter”.
The Gothic Cathedrals of the thirteenth century were as much a creation of the traveling craftsmen who came and added their unique decorations and embellishments, as they were of the architects and planners who designed and built their structures. The religious architecture of middle aged Europe may seem a far step to take from the twenty first century internet but the analogy is sound; and I wanted to underline the very real, and fundamental nature of the change.
The change has also been underlined by others: in less colorful, or historic, terms. In 2003, O’Reilly Media, who are known for publishing books and organizing conferences on IT and computing topics, coined the phrase Web 2.0 in reference to what was perceived as a second generation of web based hosted services and communities; which included all those User Generated Content sites described earlier.
The term Web 2.0 attempted to distinguish this new usage from the old and characterize it as not only different but as definitive of a more general change in web usage which, by its extent, might be seen a fundamental categorical shift in the system. No real technological changes were cited as causative of this change and it has been stressed that the core technologies involved were already in existence and in use but that their application and usage was as much of the perceived transition as the users.

To assist yourself in adapting to a vegetarian diet, there are substitutions that you can use.
Substituting beans for meat is an excellent source of nutrition for a vegetarian menu and there are such a variety of beans that you can make virtually a different meal everyday and not duplicate it for months.
If you want to keep the texture that meat offers, you can use a soybean based Tempeh, it offers the texture of meat without any of the animal byproducts. Tofu is also another option you can use in place of meat. Health food stores sell these products in abundance.
If you are also cutting dairy products out of your diet, there are soy-based products that are pleasing to the palate. Milk, margarine and yogurt are now available in soy. They have the same nutritional value as dairy products.
When you have made the decision to switch to a vegetarian menu, you are committing yourself to healthier eating habits. This goes for snacks too.
Virtually all nuts are excellent snacks for a vegetarian menu. They can add tremendous flavor to any dish as well. Cashews, almonds, peanuts and sunflower seeds can accentuate any dish.

Who Said Dogs Are Man’s Best Friend?

November 2nd, 2009 by digital

I was flipping down the yellow, brick road of my life as I flipped through the pages of a photo album. Were the boys ever that little? Did I really have as many hair styles as Oprah? Then there were the pictures of our four-legged family.
The boys had a series of keep-it-in-your-room pets; but our first, family pet was a rabbit - VW Rabbit. Fat and furry, VW had a voracious appetite for non-food items, like kitchen gloves and carpet fringe; but he was better than a Swiffer at cleaning those hard to reach places under furniture. We never had dust kitties under our beds because we had the world’s first dust rabbit.
When he was recalled by his maker, we didn’t get a new model. Instead, my husband and I discussed getting a dog. We told ourselves our boys were old enough to help care for a pet - that it would help teach them responsibility. Deep down we knew we’d be taking care of the dog, but you’re never too old for another lesson in responsibility.
John wanted a licky-face, slipper-fetching dog; I wanted a regal Great Dane I could name Hamlet; but neither of us wanted a pooper scooper. We compromised. We got a male cat from the shelter.
The next step in welcoming the cat into our family was naming him. Because I’d recently read Marion Morrison hadn’t liked his name and changed it to John Wayne, I thought we should be very careful naming our cat. This thought was confirmed when I read Eugene Growitz had also been unhappy with his name and changed it to Michael Landon.
We thought and thought and then named him Beauregard. It’s impossible to know if a cat likes his name, but Beau never called the SPCA to try to change it.
Beau was big on personality, but short on paws. One had been amputated when he was a kitten. Because Beau was undaunted by being physically challenged, he was an inspiration to us. He was also twenty-five percent less likely to put his foot in his mouth.
His claws were a different story. Often I was left a marked woman after playing with Beau. This prompted visits to Pierre for clippings. During one visit Beauregard clawed Pierre. Surprise! Surprise! Pierre lost his French accent.
We lost Beau all too soon. Because he was irreplaceable, we now have a dog.

What Are Alternative Fuels And How Do They Effect Our Enviroment?

November 2nd, 2009 by digital

Right now in the United States, there is a huge push for people to use alternative fuels as opposed to gasoline. There are many reasons for this push. Generally, it’s because alternative fuels are kinder to the environment and can help to combat the ever-growing problem of global warming.
The price of driving a car is rising at an alarming rate. It has become very expensive to drive a car, so people are looking out for ways to save money on their fuel.
Scientists are developing alternative fuels that can help not only the environment, but also the consumers checkbook. The new alternative fuels offer advantages in so many ways that people are really starting to take a look at these as an option over paying astronomical gasoline prices.
When consumers use alternative fuels both to gas up their car as well as heat and cool their homes, they are helping the environment as well as helping themselves.
The toxins that are released into the air when we burn gasoline and other fuels have shown to contribute to global warming and before we know it, winter will be as warm as summer.
In the simplest form, an alternative fuel is one that is not produced by using crude oil. They are simply fuels that replace conventional gasoline as a means of powering vehicles. Alternative fuels have desirable energy efficiency and pollution reduction features. The 1990 Clean Air Act encourages development and sale of alternative fuels.
There are many different kinds of alternative fuels and the most prominent one as well as the one that has been around the longest is ethanol.
Ethanol is made from corn which is a great help to our farmers as well as to consumers and the environment. Ethanol is sometimes called grain alcohol. It can also be made from organic materials including agricultural crops and waste, plant material left from logging, and trash including paper.
The alcohol found in alcoholic beverages is ethanol. However, the ethanol used for motor fuel is denatured, which means poison has been added so people can’t drink it. Some people believe that producing ethanol takes more energy than it gives back and for the most part, this is true. However, technologies have evolved in such a way that it is possible to increase the efficiency of producing ethanol.
The growing trend toward alternative fuels will probably grow as we become more and more conscious of how we are damaging our environment through our habits and products we use. New alternative fuels are being developed all the time and having a choice will certainly be a nice alternative itself.

Iraq Oil - The Spoils of Victory

November 2nd, 2009 by digital

In 1999, when Dick Cheney was CEO of Halliburton, he asked the rhetorical question ‘Where is the oil to come from?’ and then gave the answer ‘The Middle East, with two thirds of the world’s oil and the lowest cost, is still where the prize ultimately lies’. George Bush also has a background in the US oil industry, and the opportunity to take control of oil production in Iraq must be a dream beyond the wildest imagination of most Texan oilmen.
Since the invasion of Iraq in 2003, US companies and in particular KRB, a subsidiary of Halliburton, have received contracts to maintain and repair the decrepit Iraq oil infrastructure which fell into a poor state of repair due to international sanctions.Oil production in Iraq has continued during the turbulent aftermath of the war and is at some 2.3 millions barrels a day.
Bush and his associates are seeking to secure their position as controllers of oil production, export and exploration in Iraq for the next 30 years by means of a new Hydrocarbon Law which is now being approved by what is euphemistically described as the government of Iraq.
The main features of the new law are as follows - Firstly, it will effectively place control of oil resources in the hands of multinational oil companies for some 30 years. Secondly, decisions concerning the flow of oil and the levels of production will be made by a consortium which could be controlled by the oil companies themselves. Thirdly, the percentage of oil revenues which are to be retained by the Iraqis will be distributed among the various regional and provincial authorities and not handed to the national government.
The final obstacle to the passing of the law appears to have been the Kurds in northern Iraq. The third provision, which shares the domestic revenue of oil wealth among the regional administrations, has secured their approval. It also safeguards the interests of Sunnis in west Iraq where little oil is currently produced.
The sheer scale of Iraq’s oil capability is impressive. The country has proven reserves of 115 billion barrels of oil, around the same as Iran. Due to the international isolation of Iraq, little exploration has taken place for some 20 years. It may well be that actual reserves could exceed 300 billion barrels, which is greater than Saudi Arabia.
In addition, the costs of extracting oil from Iraq are relatively low. Estimates are in the region of 1 to 2$ a barrel and the sales price is some 60$ a barrel. This is indeed an oilman’s dream.
However, the euphoria of the multinationals must be muted by the continued and probably worsening security situation in Iraq. Western oil companies are unlikely to inject financial investment and expatriate manpower into Iraq unless domestic security is significantly improved. Shell has been especially forthright on this point by stating ‘We would welcome the opportunity to help Iraq rebuild its energy industry, but will only enter the country once security, living and working conditions are improved’.
The new law is being enacted by a puppet regime, established by the US and UK, which has effectively handed over control of the main assets of the country to foreign agencies for a period of 30 years. The irony is that the regime is unlikely to be in existence for this time period and many estimate its life expectancy in months rather than years.
However, if the regime does nothing else, a cynic could argue that it has served its purpose. Firstly, it presided over the execution of Saddam Hussein, and secondly, gave away control of Iraqi oil to foreign companies. Henceforward, the nation state of Iraq can continue to disintegrate into partition based on the Kurds in the north, the Shi’ites in the south and east, and the Sunnis in the west. Each region will receive a secure revenue stream under the new law.
It is no surprise that the leading contenders for contracts are Exxon, ConocoPhillips and Total from the US, together with BP and Shell from the UK. However, Russia’s Lukoil and the Chinese are seeking a share of the action. Whether the Russians and the Chinese, given their lack of support for the war, will be granted access to this bonanza remains to be seen. It would be diplomatic for the US and UK to invite TPOA from Turkey and representatives from Saudi Arabia and Iran to participate, but such niceties are probably wasted on Messrs Bush and Cheney.
The invasion of Iraq has been a costly venture by the coalition forces, both in terms of resources and fatalities, and now the injection of foreign capital to revitalise the oil industry is a demonstrable requirement. However, the case for granting these generous oil licences needs to be made by both the US and UK adminstrations. The current policy of minimal publicity plays directly into the hands of the conspiracy theorists.
